While growing up our home was full of turmoil , fear and uncertainty.
I loved my mom and dad because they were my parents but what I didn’t know was that deep inside of me was growing a root of bitterness and resentment towards them for not being what I needed them to be. And growing up in an environment like this created a shame in me and the ever present thought that I was never good enough.
All this Shame and bitterness has left my soul , simply put, a mess! Until recently I always thought that the shame only affected one area of my life, my self esteem. I now know that is so far from the truth! Shame is like kryptonite and it leaks into so many areas and it paralyzes our life. Shame leaves us lacking confidence not just in who we are but what we do and it alters the atmosphere of our souls. Everything I did/do is motivated by my shame. The definition of shame is ( noun) – ” A painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior. ( Verb) – (of a person, action or situation) make (someone) feel ashamed.
BUT….. There is hope!!!!! Because there is someone who created you who is the “lover of your soul” . He wants to see you set free from those circumstances, choices or people who have left you shamed and broken. He wants to help you take off that Costume you have been wearing to hide your pain.
Psalm 31:7 says- I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul.
God cares, more than we will ever know, about the atmosphere of our souls. I want to encourage you to search the scriptures for the word “soul” and see what God has to say about your soul. Write down the scriptures that really speak to you and your situation and put them where you will see them everyday as a reminder of Gods faithfulness.
I have a few to get you started.
Mark 8:37- Is Anything worth more than your soul?
Remember, You are beautiful , You are worthy , You are Loved, You are Enough!
