Family fun? + Friday favorites

We went on a quick 3 day getaway to the Jersey Shore on Sunday.

Does anyone else have a husband who drives like he is in the Indy 500? I swear we are on some sort of important mission when he drives… And so serious. Watch Out!!

While we were driving down I started scrolling through my Instagram and saw a post of someone I follow. She took a selfie in the car and her tagline was “ready for some new adventures with my family on vacation”

Adventures?? I am pretty sure mine look a lot different from her’s. But I do love her positive outlook.

Of course I wanted to take the same picture but no one would smile and I may or may not of been yelled at by 2 of the kids. Sadness came over me, “why can’t I take a selfie with my family?” “Why do my teenagers have to talk to me like that?”

Then it dawned on me, I bet that women doesn’t have 3 teenagers and an 8 year old who thinks he is 18. Am I the only mom who sometimes actually doesn’t look forward to family vacations? (just a little).

Six people in an 800 square foot hotel room all trying to get along. I have no where to run to baby, no where to hide… not to mention the fact that my kids, (I don’t know about yours) do not always act perfect…. yup…. even when we are away….. It definitely does not always feel like a vacation.

Now don’t get me wrong, I totally appreciate all of my four children, drama and all. I was told I may never have kids, had 3 miscarriages and I am so grateful for the blessing they are. But sometimes I ask myself “What in the world was I thinking?”

This is what it looks like when it starts to rain and everyone runs off the beach at the same time. This picture does not capture it at all. It was so much fun to watch and after we got to cover it stopped raining and the sun came out!

The forecast wasn’t the best so Saturday Morning we Odell’s did what we love and we had a meeting about what to do until the sun came out. All those in favor say “I”, “I”.

So off to the outlet mall we went! Then Praise the Lord! The sun came out so we headed back to the beach. The rip tide was so strong we couldn’t go in the water…. who needs water when you have sun and sand?

And surprise surprise! My kids and my niece agreed to take a picture for me. Miracles do happen.

Or trip was short but we definitely look forward to it every year.

We all survived, even my husband who had to deal with a wife who had PMS and morphed into a being from another planet.  And on the way home I got a pretty good car selfie with no arguments. I think the sun did us all some good. Or maybe we were just excited to go home! ha.

This is the second time I have tried this ice cream. Sugar free and sweetened with Monk fruit, whatever that is. Mint chip and chocolate are the best!

I love running on the boardwalk when we go to the beach. I used to really enjoy running in the heat but I am now beginning to hate it. Please help! The wind was so strong I ran a minute slower per mile until I turned around and the wind pushed me back.

Do more of what you love and what brings you joy. Soak in every moment of your time with your family and those you love. And remember the important things in life.

Where is your favorite place to run?

Do you do the driving or your spouse?

What is your favorite drama moment while on vacation?
