How are you? & 3 things I have done to keep sane and stress free this summer.

Hey!! How are you? Fine? Good? Great?

I have been thinking lately about how I respond to the question “How are you?” My usual answer is “fine” but I believe God is asking more from me as His daughter. Especially in the season I am walking through right now. He is challenging me to rise above. And that starts with what I believe I am and what I say I am. (cue Lauren Daigle song “You Say”)

If I have Jesus Christ living on the inside of me as my Lord and Savior am I really just “fine.” Am I responding based on how I feel due to my surroundings? Am I letting them dictate my emotional status? We had some spiritual battles going on last week and I just knew that being fine wasn’t going to cut it. What would happen if even though I just feel fine, I decided to speak how I really want to be? (In spite of my circumstances)

So I decided to do a test. When someone asks me how I am doing I was going to say “Excellent!” I wanted to see if saying Excellent in the middle of a situation that might not really feel 100% excellent would actually lift my spirits and make me feel more empowered. And ya know what? It did! I shouldn’t be surprised. The bible does say in Luke 6:45 NKJV ” For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” And in Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue. And those that love it will eat its fruit.

I am not saying that if you say “I am fine” that you are speaking death but is there a better choice? Give it a try. If you are having a not so great day. In the middle of a season you would rather not be in. Or just down right blah. When someone says “how are you today” Say “I’M EXCELLENT.” Say it with enthusiasm. Say it like you mean it! And see how you feel after a few days of saying it. 😉

Summer please slow down… It seems as we get near the end the days go faster and faster. We have had a full summer though! My two favorite memories are below. 👇🏻

We had our first annual Odell family reunion. 31 of us shared a house in the Poconos and it was so much FUN!! We all get along really well so there were no arguments and no one go hurt! I am already looking forward to next year.

This is where I spent most of my time. Yes I went down the water slide. Yes I have it on video. 🙂 If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen it. If not then go on over and follow me so you don’t miss out next time! It was a sight to see.

And I wasn’t alone in my goal to sit and relax….

Couple of weeks later we had a mini- Beach Vaca planned with our family. Everyone cancelled on it so I decided it would be fun to take 3 of my kids and 2 friends and go it alone. How hard could it be? ( I am staying silent on that one)

The water was 73 degrees and the waves were perfect.

Getting buried in the sand is always a favorite beach activity.

There is nothing like a walk to get ice cream to bring peace to any situation.

I have 3 things I am doing this summer to keep me sane and stress free.

#1 >I served others. Putting others needs before your own is an awesome way to lower the stress in your life. It helps to put your focus off of yourself and give you a different perspective on your life. It is what we were created by God for. To Serve.

We provided and served lunch at a camp for underprivileged kids.

#2 >Sit on the beach and eat all the Acai Bowls I can! My favorite toppings are banana. Peanut butter. Strawberries. Shredded unsweetened coconut. (not pictured) The bonus is that this is 100% added sugar free. Sugar from fruit is definitely OKAY and is a great way to get your carbs in for a long run or workout.

#3 > Run as much as I can and embrace that heat. Running is the number one thing I do to relieve the stress in my life. The cold weather is coming sooner than I would like so I am going to enjoy the shorts. Tank tops. Dripping sweat. For as long as I can! Since June I have put in 167.65 miles. Not bad!

I hope you are enjoying your last days of summer and getting ready for all things Pumpkin Spice! And in case no one told you today… you are doing an amazing job. You are loved more than you know. 💜

What has been your favorite memory this summer?

Do you love açaí? Ever heard of it? Try it and let me know what you think!
